Update on New Coronavirus (COVID-19) from Linda Roth

Dear Community School Families,

We continue to closely monitor the reports of new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Virginia. There are now possible cases in our area that are awaiting confirmation by the CDC. Community School is following the CDC guidelines for prevention and treatment. Please read carefully the following link:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html

In compliance with the mandate of the state of Virginia to close all K-12 school, Community School will be closed March 16-27. At the end of our spring break on March 27, we will follow the decision made by the governor about extending the closure. These decisions are considered thoughtfully and our responsibility is taken seriously. Slowing the spread of COVID-19 in order to keep our community safe is our top priority.

Our teachers have begun working on ways to stay connected with students during their time away from school.  Today, March 16, teachers are meeting to share and further develop plans for providing activities and resources on-line or digitally. Some classes are putting together bags or kits with activities for students to do at home. Teachers will contact families this week to set up transfer logistics for the materials. They will also provide information about conference changes.

While we all wanted some “snow days”, this isn’t quite what we expected. Please follow the recommendations of the health department and CDC and practice social distancing as much as possible.

Contact Linda or Patrick if you have questions or concerns. Additional updates will be provided as needed. Urgent messages will be sent by the Alert system.

We appreciate your cooperation as we work together to keep our community healthy and safe.

Linda Roth
